About Project Access
Wake County Physicians are generous, compassionate
and
caring. Since 2000, over 500 physicians and clinical
staff
have continued to provide free care to poor
uninsured men,
women and children through Project
Access. They are
leaders in collaborating with
community health clinics
and
hospitals to deliver care
to many who had little hope
for
feeling better or
receiving extraordinary treatment.
Lives
have been
changed because of their passion to help
people
get and stay well.
Project Access of Wake County is a physician referral
program, which means qualified patients can only be
referred
into the program due to medical necessity.
Patients are
carefully screened for eligibility before
being referred.

Eligibility Guidelines)
Project Access ID Card: For
specialty referrals,
patients
receive PA ID
cards they are required to
present at every
Project Access appointment. The
patient's eligibility date
is printed on the card, along
with the name and phone
number of their referring
clinic. If there is a question about
eligibility, call the
Project Access office at 919.792.3625.
Enrollment Period: Patients
are re-certified annually
by
their enrollment clinics. The enrollment period is
based
on their most recent certification and is printed
on the
PA ID card.
Medication Assistance:
Patients receive a modest annual
pharmacy benefit for prescriptions
written by Project Access
providers. (PA
Formulary) If the physician prescribes a drug
that is not on the
formulary, Project Access staff will assist
the patient to apply for
drug assistance through their referring
clinic. Often times they can
apply for programs and get their
medications free.
Diagnostic Referrals:
Patients can receive free diagnostic
tests through Duke Raleigh
Hospital, Rex Healthcare and
WakeMed. Services include blood work,
x-rays, MRIs, CT
scans, ultrasound, cardiac testing, pulmonary function
testing, and nerve conduction studies. When scheduling
an appointment,
be sure to identify the patient as a
Project Access member.
Hospitalization and Anesthesiology: All three Wake
County hospital corporations (Duke
Raleigh, Rex
Healthcare and WakeMed and Hospitals), and American
Anesthesiology of NC, provide free care to Project
Access patients.
Enrollment Primary Care Clinics:
Patients are
screened for eligibility at these safety nets clinics and
receive primary care, patient education for chronic
disease and drug
assistance services. (List of Clinics)

Since Project Access
is a volunteer program, you can choose the number
of
patients your practice can handle. If that is only five
patients,
that's GREAT! If you have specific referral
restrictions, those will be
honored. Project Access staff
is committed to helping you and your staff
make the
referral process seamless.
